I am continually shocked by the fact by the fact that so few people incorporate weight training into their exercise regimen. The best that I’ve been able to determine, this is because of a very common misunderstanding regarding the benefits of weight training.

In relation to getting into shape, the terms high intensity and low intensity are used a lot but aren’t defined with nearly the same frequency. I suppose that’s because we’re all supposed to know the difference…but many don’t really understand the difference at all.

There is only one way to gain weight, and that is by taking in more calories than you burn. When done with intelligence and attention to exercise, this process will make you more muscular; when done without intelligence and attention to exercise, this process will make you fat. If you’re reading this article, you’re obviously interested in gaining weight and I’m going to operate on the assumption that you aren’t looking to gain weight by getting fat.

It’s ironic that the icon for both the peak in muscle conditioning and the pit of laziness is a six-pack. For the former it’s on your stomach and for the latter it’s poured into your stomach.
